Godfreys Law is proud to have been involved with the Life Education Trust Canterbury for the past 10 years. Godfreys Law directors Brad and Raajan have both been key past and present members of the Life Ed Canterbury board of trustees. Raajan filled Brad’s shoes in 2023 and transitioned as the Trust’s deputy chair, bringing law clerk Mikayla on with him as administrative support for the board.

In case it has been a while since you’ve had Harold the Giraffe chat t you about kindness and friendship, here’s a reminder of their story and a heads up about upcoming events.

History

The Life Education journey began in Christchurch in 1988 when the concept was brought overseas from our Tasman neighbours. The programme was built on capturing children's imagination to enhance teaching crucial topics such as using technology safely and building self-esteem at a young age.

Harold’s Fame

In 1992, Linwood Avenue School celebrated the 150,000th child taught by Life Education in Aotearoa with the help of John Illsey of Dire Straits.

Christchurch’s first static classroom was officially opened by Princess Anne, who then came back to sit in a mobile classroom lesion in 2008 to celebrate 20 years of Life Ed.

In 2009, Harold even went to space to hang out at the International Space Station with astronaut Nicole Stott.

Life Education Trust

When not travelling and hanging out with his famous friends, Harold prioritises helping in lessons in primary and secondary schools all across Aotearoa.

Life Ed works with schools and teachers to educate children in Health Science, empowering our young tamariki with knowledge and confidence to make positive decisions for a healthy mind and body. Their comprehensive lessons are delivered by qualified Educators in state-of-the-art mobile classrooms and are always evolving to meet the present needs of our tamariki.

Purpose

Life Ed’s philosophy targets our youth, helping young tamariki who may have low self-esteem and troubles at home.

The Life Ed programme helps unsow any undesirable seeds that may have been planted early in a child’s life. Our educators work with children to establish a growth mindset, giving them the power to break generational patterns and flourish in society.

Events in 2025

Life Ed Canterbury’s calendar has been busy so far, starting the year off with Harold’s Charity Golf Day and recently holding an Evening of Economic Insights. Both of these events were smash hits and have bigger and better returns planned for 2026. Rally your family, friends and colleagues to keep your eyes peeled for advertising and get ready to save the dates and secure your tickets!

Having taken over the Saturday morning Hagley Park Run and clip-clopping his way around the path one chilly June morning, Harold plans on bringing the same energy from his 5km training to the second half of 2025.

Keep the kids free for a high energy celebratory end-of-term activity in September and get brainstorming ideas for Life Ed’s biggest event of the year – the Annual Duck race. Start planning your corporate duck’s decoration with your workplace and get your little yellow friend ready to race down the Avon River and bring your company glory in November 2025.

How You Can Help

Life Ed has been an integral part of a kiwi tamariki’s childhood for decades now. As Life Ed is a not-for-profit organisation, they do not receive any funding from the government. The only way the programme can continue to deliver their life changing programmes to future generations is with your help and support. By donating and supporting Life Ed Canterbury’s events, their work and lifelong impact can continue for generations to come.

Donate on their website directly, and sign up to their newsletter to stay in the loop. Godfreys Law is proud to support such an integral Canterbury charity – we’ll see you at their next event!
