Becoming Living Wage Accredited

This year, Godfreys Law became Living wage accredited. This means we have adopted an equitable employment policy in relation to our and accordance with the standards of the Living Wage Agreement. At Godfreys, we believe in our employees’ value and seek to establish and maintain a positive working relationship. One of our core values is to offer real solutions to clients. We value our staff and seek to express that in many ways. Becoming Living Wage Accredited is just one of them. We engage in the same ideology with our employees which is why we were motivated to be an Accredited Living Wage Employer.

On September first this year, the New Zealand Living wage increased to $23.65 an hour to reflect the increasing cost of living. This came into effect on 1 September 2022. This is a 90-cent increase from the 2021 and 2022 rates.

The New Zealand Living Wage is the income necessary to provide workers and their families with the basic necessities to living. This amount is remeasured and calculated each year to account and ensure annual development of living costs do not outstrip buying power. This amount sits at 68% of the average hourly bill across all jobs in New Zealand, being 85% of the median hourly earnings from wages and salaries In New Zealand.

This Living wage update announced on 1 April 2022, was to give employers the time to implement the new living wage by 1 September 2022.
