Areas Of Expertise
James started his first business at 18 years old, and has run various ventures, both successful and unsuccessful ever since. He believes his experiences as a business owner bring a different perspective to his legal practice with a focus on practical solution focused problem solving.
During the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, James’ printing company was involved in payment and contract disputes with suppliers and manufacturers. He became fascinated with how contracts and agreements work, plus the legal process of preparing and arguing a case. James approached Partner at Godfreys Law, Philip Sewell for assistance, and worked with him to gather evidence and prepare documents on these matters. The legal process and the positive outcomes achieved sparked James’ interest in the law.
These experiences along with the Canterbury Earthquakes prompted James to go back to study at University of Canterbury, completing his law degree while continuing to run his printing company and other business. A firm like Godfreys Law suits James as he prefers working within a smaller firm which has more engagement with its clients and their projects. James believes that there is often a disconnect between clients and lawyers in larger firm structures.
Despite having been born in Wellington, James considers himself a Cantabrian. He has a passion for classic cars, and loves getting on the tools in his spare time. He is also a keen musician and enjoys the creative process of the printing industry.
